Favorite drummer
Is it me, or is the drummer always the cool one? I think it's John Bonham's fault. I won't bore you with videos today but anyone wanting to listen to my favorite drummers can email me and I'll make you a mix-tape instead (you remember those, right?)
Scott Plouf - The Spinanes,
Built to Spill
The Spinanes were the first two piece band I'd ever heard and I couldn't believe how full they sounded. Sorry Becky, you know I love you but Scott was the glue that held that band together. I was so sad when they broke up but I happy when Scott found a new home, playing with Built to Spill.
Jody Bleyle - Hazel
AKA my hero. I think I liked Jody's "fuck you" attitude more than her playing ability. She was also the first chick drummer I remember seeing in a rock band (besides Sheila E.) Though she's gone on to sing and play bass, I like to honor her roots. Don't worry, I'll put up plenty of Hazel clips in future posts.
Janet Weiss - Sleater-Kinney, Quasi, The Jicks
I had always liked Sleater-Kinney but when she joined the band, it took their sound to a whole new level. Her best work was on 2005's "The Woods."
Animal - The Muppet Band
See what I mean? He was the coolest one. Or at least the wildest one. They had to put chains on him to restrain his awesomeness. I'm just sayin'.
Rick Allen - Def Leppard
Dude, I only picked you so I could say, "The drummer for Def Leppard's only got one arm!"
