Uprising

As you can imagine, there’s a bit of hullabaloo around the office in regards to tonight’s playoff game. A few peeps at work have stopped by my door to admire my Rip City Up-Rise sign, offering words of encouragement about making a comeback after an unexpected loss in game one. So it was with great disappointment and chagrin that I overheard one arty-farty vegan dude in the lunch room expressing his disdain for the recent increase in athletic idolatry and thus, perhaps unintentionally, insinuating that my exuberance for sports is a banal endeavor. I had to bite back the urge to blurt out, “Hey, not everyone who likes sports is a jock asshole, you know! I also like art and music and foreign films and listen to NPR and I’m not an aping cretin!”

Alas, I walked away shamefully untwisting the lid on my Cherry Coke (damn land-fill rotting bottle of sugar water and proud sponsor of the NBA!) and took solace in this blog post by my home-girl Carrie Brownstein who, as usual, put things in to perspective for me. I love that she is rooting for Greg and Brandon and Rudy and rocking to Blitzen Trapper at the same time. 'Cuz so am I.
And for anyone who needs assurance that this season was a major success despite the dismal showing on Saturday, please read this article. And go Blazers!

I like sports, and I'm a jock and an @sshole, so maybe he's sort of right...

Sorry the Blazers didn't live up to your expectations this year. But they're lucky to have such devoted fans!
