Saving Graces of Smiling Faces

To say that last week was rough would be a dramatic understatement. Nothing I tried to do worked out the way I wanted.  In fact, several things went wrong simultaneously. I was physically and mentally drained from not eating right, not sleeping well and not delegating any of the numerous fires to put out at work  To top it off, life in general was not being kind. Around Wednesday, when I was at my most hopeless and desperate, I had a bit of an emotional meltdown of ridiculous proportions.  By Friday, I was ready to curl up and drown my sorry ass in a bottle.

Alas, due to a scheduling conflict, Matt missed his previously arranged "daytime date" with Jason to drink and play video games as part of his two-man birthday party . So, as a last minute solution, I volunteered to take the kids over night so that they could drink and bromance the PS3 til' dawn.  I'm pretty sure no therapy could have lifted my spirits the way these three smiling faces did in the few hours I got to spend with them.  We painted pictures and watched movies and had a slumber party in the living room.  We consumed a ton of sugary snacks and I watched them bounce around the room and recite the most interesting parts of the "Barbie in a Mermaid Tale" movie.  In short it was the perfect way to "uncomplicate" my mind and let go of the petty annoyances and troubles from the week.  I'm not sure they'll ever appreciate how much I needed it.
