I, like many people my age, have very strong memories tied to the Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Released in September of 1991, this was the soundtrack of the beginning of my junior year in High School. Every car in the parking lot of PHS could be heard blaring, "Suck My Kiss" before class. "Give it Away" was often heard during afternoon warm-up for soccer practice and every girl swooned over Anthony Kiedis as he bared his soul (and his tattooed chest) during the video for "Under the Bridge." During this time, my cousin was a wee little baby girl, not even old enough to follow along to Barney songs yet.
Fast forward 21 years and me and my same little cousin take our seats at the Rose Garden to experience the Peppers together, live in concert:
| The Rebirth Brass Band opened the show. Crowd wasn't in to them, but I dug it! |
| Standing in line to see the show tonight...and these dorks show up |
| The stage and the lighting was incredible. Very big show but still rockin'. They played a good mix but featured "Californication" heavily which was surprising, but fine with me. |
| My biggest complaint was the Flea interlude between almost every song. I know he's amazing but it got old after a while. |
| The stand-in for John Frusciante was very impressive, broken foot and all. |
