The Great White North

I spent a week in Toronto assisting with the SOX Financial Controls audit of our Canada Contract Logistics office.  While that all sounds exciting, it was possibly the most intensely tedious thing I've ever done during my time here at UTi.  I guess the lesson learned is that I know to a certainty that I don't ever want to be an auditor when I grow up. Still, upon delving in to the world of compliance, controls implementation and material misstatements, I realized just how much I've learned over the last year-and-a-half. When I started, I would have never considered myself expert enough to review a process and judge whether controls were designed and implemented correctly but now, at least in my area, I feel like I can assess the risk pretty well. Maybe it is just a confidence level thing - either way, I ended up being a bit flattered that I was asked to participate.

Driving in to Toronto - CN tower is barely visible.
We went right past where the Blue Jays play - and traffic sucked

My only wish is that I could have seen more of the city.  Toronto turned out to be very diverse in its population which made for equally diverse restaurants.  In the short time I was able to get "out and about," I tried curried goat at an Indian buffet, I enjoyed a fancy surf-n-turf steakhouse dinner, and an authentic lamb ke-bab in Greek town. I think I would plan a trip to go back to Toronto just for the food!

Astoria restaurant - "Opa!"
I went to Canada and drank Greek beer.  Oh well. It was good!
