Mosquito Lake, AKA Mount Blustery

We enjoyed our first camping trip of the season at O’Dell Lake over the 4th of July.  Having never been there, I didn’t know what to expect other than a good 3 hour drive (have I mentioned how much I miss Little Fan?) Still, despite the trek, we were able to score two spots right on the lake which, I thought was really lucky given how busy campgrounds generally are over the holiday.  Little did I know the lakefront sites were ground zero for the daily windstorm that commenced at 2:00 PM and didn't let up until after sun-down.  The first night nearly did us in as we struggled to anchor our tents securely.  The Cains almost chucked it all headed back to Bend but eventually, the full force gale subsided and we were able to take in the beauty of the alpine scenery.

Gorgeous but chilly morning view.

Unfortunately, when the winds stopped, the mosquitoes came out in force. We retired pretty early most nights which was fine since many of us had long work-weeks and other projects necessitating a more restful  vacation. And the water lapping against the rocks was very soothing as we enjoyed our tent naps.  The second day was sunny and hot and then by day three, we had discovered how “swimmable” the water was and had a great time, wading through the shallows and even pitched our chairs out on the rocks to get some much deserved sun.  I barely managed to pull my camera out over the four days, three nights so photography credits all go to Mike and Matt:

I guess the moss kept JBs face warm?

Much warmer afternoon on the dock

PBR, sunshine, bacon dogs and good friends. That's AMERica!
I can't believe she got in the water! (Tootie, not Misty)

You know what's happening here... thanks, Mike.
The Kids on the Log
Chillin' at the campsite... with Indiana Jones?

Here's D. fueling up on S'mores for a nightly fit. Poor thing.

The sun went down, the mosquitoes went to bed. (And so did we)
