HAPPY BIRTHDAY

6/20/12 8lbs 14oz

Summer in general always feels like the busiest time of year and this summer has been no exception. With so much going on, I obviously have a bit of catching up to do on the blog, so before I get too far behind, I'd be remiss if I didn't post a major event in our family - the birth of my niece, Stella Lucille.

Growing up, I was very close to my aunt, in fact she lived with us for a time when we first moved to Parkrose and there was always "a place" for her at our kitchen table. As a kid I remember her presence always lightening the mood at our house, in part because she was constantly teasing us and kidding around with us and in turn, my brothers and I made every effort to keep her laughing. She had a big influence on my life in everything from popular music (which my Rock/Blues loving dad abhored) to horror movies (which my mom wouldn't sit through). As a teenager, I realized how valuable it was to have this grown up person in my life who, although not necessarily a "friend" was not an authority figure or disciplinarian. It is a relationship I cherish and although this has come at a tough time for us given our own fertility challenges, I look forward to building a similar bond with Ryan & Sharon's kids.

So far, mom and dad seem to be doing really well and have adapted to parenting life pretty easily.  They've even turned Stella's crazy internal clock in to a game - since she's so active at night, they've been "playing dress-up" to keep her occupied and pass the late hours, all the while, breaking in the nice new digital SLR camera they got before she was born. The whole experience has been exciting for my parents as well, as they welcome their first grand-child to our family.

This is my fave so far - she really looks like Ryan here!
