Poor De Chirico

painted by Giorgio in 1911
Oh my dear friend My dear friend
Giorgio How has this time Breton
Discouraged your liaison with the Eye
styled metaphysical Incongruous scenarios
Dauntly jaunt about through
nostalgic despair
Within childlike renderings
Of a nightmarish recall
"All my images
Fragments I've shored upon my ruins
Pictor classicus
sum I am pure"
Step solemn with the Air of reluctant manes
As rod and
hoop shadow children
Scatter through a henna arcade
Figures indentured
to a windless landscape
Enduring silence and flame Da Da da
No loyalty
to the nonsensical
Scorned their nihilist pageantry.
-10,000 Maniacs "Poor De Chirico" from the album Hope Chest

I had to listen to this song on you tube because I didn't recognize it by the written lyrics. But ah, now I recall. It reminds me of hanging out in your mom's basement. Of course, I never knew what the song was about, it was always hard to understand what she was saying. The words are so melancholy and sad but the song sounds light hearted and happy. Even after reading the lyrics I'm not sure that I understand it completley. Is it about his life as an artist?
