Memorial
After a long and brutal battle with multiple kinds of cancer, my maternal grandmother died on January 26th. She was surrounded by family which, had she been alert and not full of morphine, would have utterly embarrassed her. She had an excess of pride, even to the bitter end. And although I had a lot of time to get used to the idea of her passing, it was nothing like I thought it would be, especially saying that final "goodbye" just a few hours before she finally let go.
I can't imagine how my mom and my aunt Tina are feeling right now - the last few years especially have been hard for them since my uncle Bud passed away and their other brother, Curt has been struggling with addiction. The two of them had a lot to deal with as grandma became more and more dependent and her death seems to just be the beginning of another long and arduous process. In lieu of sharing a memory or story during the funeral, I made this slide-show and burned it to a DVD for them:
Rest in peace, Granny. We will miss you.

Aw, Skye, it's beautiful. I'm so sorry for your family and the sorrow they feel. Losing parents and grandparents is such a necessary part of life, but is tragic none the less. A remarkable tribute to your granny. Good job.
Really good. You family will really appreciate the time and effort you put into it. I'll be thinking of you guys. Peace and Love.
PS: This is Heidi.
Skye, that is so sweet. It's a surreal feeling to lose someone close like that, isn't it? My condolences to you and your fam. :(
Thanks for the well-wishes, all. Making the slide-show was a cathartic process and that’s mainly why I posted it.
Very, very sweet Skye. Hang in there as best you can. Our thoughts are with you and your family. I love the shots of her being silly on the beach.
I'm sorry I'm coming to this post so late, but condolences and a hug regardless. Your slideshow is wonderful, and so fitting...so important to honor and remember our loves ones like that.
